We believe that young children learn best through play.
When playing, children learn at their highest level. Playing with others is important for children’s social and emotional development. Through play children explore and develop learning experiences, which help them make sense of the world. They practice and build up ideas, and learn how to control themselves and understand the need for rules.
We believe that going to a pre-school for the first time is a big step in the life of a young child and understand that the settling in period is important for both children and parents/carers. This will take longer for some children than others and parents/carers should not feel worried if their child takes a while to settle.
Children cannot play or learn if they are anxious and tense and each child has different needs.
Some children may need their parent/s/carers to remain with them for the first few sessions until they become familiar with the setting or for their parent to leave them for short periods of time which can be slowly built on, extending the time they stay each time, until they are ready to stay for a whole session without them.
