Lates and Absence Procedures

Please refer to our attendance policy for full details on procedure for lates and absence.

SICKNESS

  • Please notify the academy by 9:30am on the first day of the absence.  Failure to notify the academy either by phone or text on the first day or letter upon a child’s return to the academy will lead to the absence being marked as unauthorised.

LATENESS

Punctuality is an important life skill. It is also polite.

  • Children must be in class by 9:00 a.m. each day. Doors open at 8:50 a.m. to allow all children to be in class by 9:00 a.m. Registers will be taken as soon as possible after that time. Children will be marked late if they arrive at the academy after 9:10am when they have to enter through the main entrance.
  • Lateness will be monitored and the Attendance Manager will follow this up.
  • If the arrival at the academy is after the registers have closed at 9.10 a.m., the pupil will receive a ‘U’. This equates to an unauthorised absence although we are aware that the pupil is on the academy premises in accordance with health and safety.

ATTENDANCE & TERM TIME HOLIDAY REQUESTS

Changes to the 2006 regulations, mean that from September 2013, head teachers are unable to authorise leave unless there are exceptional circumstances (e.g. bereavement). Where it is deemed that leave may be granted, the head teacher determines the number of days permitted.

Head teachers have the right to issue penalty fines where parents fail to ensure the attendance of their child at school. Details of charges can be found on the link below.

Further advice and day to day information can also be sought by speaking to Mrs Rachel Allen, our Attendance Manager, in the school office. All requests for term time holidays must be put in writing at least 2 weeks prior to the intended absence.
